Review of 2013 :

March 18th-Green Hospitals

Guest Speaker:
Phillip Kercher, Manager of Facilities and head of the Green Team at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center & Children’s Hospital

Phillip Kercher presentation

Phillip Kercher presented the eco-efficiencies and new technology Sacred Heart has implemented and the cost savings associated with them (like upgrading 30,000 lightbulbs!) as well as revealing their opportunities for future improvements. The evolution and history of Sacred Heart in pictures was fascinating!

June 17th-Green Beauty
The average woman may use up to 515 chemicals in her daily grooming rituals. Many of these ingredients can not only be be absorbed or ingested, but also wash down the drain, enter the waterway, and advance up into the food chain. If you care what you put in your or your family’s bodies, you should care what you put ON them. Green Beauty goes far beyond cosmetics to involve personal care products, sourcing, manufacturing, packaging, and the health, social, & environmental implications that accompany our choices about these everyday items. Luncheon attendees will receive product samples, a resource guide, and additional discounts to local retailers. For month long retailer discounts and charitable giving opportunity, check out the event flyer—> Click Here for Event Flyer
Guest speakers:
Annie Grieve of Green Salon and Day Spa
Annie Grieve photoOne of Annie’s biggest takeaways was the importance of voting with our dollars for cleaner, healthier products. Learn what you can in 2 minutes per day and gradually begin incorporating healthier personal care items into your daily routine. Don’t have 2 minutes a day to spare? Find a trusted salon, spa, or natural health retailer whose already done the research to help you make educated choices about what to purchase. The short video The Story of Cosmetics sure sent the room a chatter!
