SMART Program

The Sustainable Management of Assets, Resources and Technology (SMART) recognition program promotes Spokane area businesses who adopt policies and practices that encourage good management of financial, built, natural and human capital. Sustainable practices can help a business reduce expenses and increase revenue by making it run more efficiently and attracting new customers who prefer to do business with companies that share their values. The SMART label provides the brand recognition those customers seek, and positions your business as a leader so other businesses can learn from your success.

  • Participant level is awarded to businesses which commit to changes that will ultimately result in better management of assets, resources, and/or technology.
  • Certified level is awarded to businesses which demonstrate they have adopted changes that resulted in better management of assets, resources, and/or technology.

Participating businesses will receive a Media Toolkit, inclusion on Sustainable Resources’ website, mentions on Sustainable Resources’ social media outlets as well as a decal in the form of a window cling in addition to an electronic format for use on your letterhead, business cards, website, and other marketing materials and recognition at an annual awards ceremony. A small fee is requested to cover time and material costs.

Businesses can choose to apply for recognition in any and all categories. Just fill out the application for the category(ies) and level(s) of participation most relevant to your interests and qualifications. Please note Certified recognition will require additional documentation to verify your activities. Completed applications are accepted on a rolling basis. Click here for application materials. Applications can be submitted electronically to kirsten(at)sustainin(dot)org. or mailed/delivered to:
